Day 13 of #covid19 #SocialDistance.
Today it’s materials science day. We collected a number of items that got broken (aka my daughter broke) and we never had time to fix:
- a glittery Easter bunny who got repeatedly hit on the floor;
- a biscuit shaped magnet that had the same destiny as the bunny;
- a paper crown;
- an ear clip;
- an hair clip;
- a copy of Tolkien's Silmarillion.
We explored the different materials, and tried if and how glue and sticky tape stick to surfaces and fix items. Afterwards, we did some artwork with glue and different materials.
My daughter's favourite is titled "Flower in the snow with cherries" - that's what she came up to after finishing.
We learnt that some items got fixed, others didn’t because glue is not appropriate for those materials. So, better not to break anything to be safe.👍
We learnt that our glue is perfect to stick paper, fabric, thread, some plastic to carton. So it's perfect for crafting.
We learnt that sticky tape does not stick strong on rough surfaces.
Learning outcomes:
basic materials science concepts
fine motor skills
Materials: as in pictures.
