Day 43 of #covid19 #socialdistancing
Today we took advantage of the rain to go out looking for muddy puddles. We found one quite big in front of our house. We had fun - as you can probably guess - jumping up and down and getting all wet.
"Where does the water in muddy puddles go?", asks mum.
"in the ground!", replies the kid.
"why does it rain?", asks mum
"to make children having fun!", replied the kid.
And so we started our conversation on the science of puddles, followed by some drawing and watching a short movie about the water cycle.
We talked about plants and trees and flowers being happy today for they drink the rain with their roots.
And we drink the rain too! We talked about rain penetrating the ground and forming "big lakes" underground, that's where we take our water to drink, to wash ourselves and to make pizza.
We talked about the clouds being mostly made of water, falling down when they're too heavy.
We talked about the need of keeping our water resources clean.
We talked about places where precipitations are limited and water not clean to drink, and about how lucky we are we live in a place where we can safely drink tap water.
We were inspired about this link, that contains A LOT of everything you can possibly explore using muddy puddles: https://www.cela.org.au/2019/07/15/puddles-maths-science/
There is also a movie embedded about the water cycle, that we watched.
We had a great day!
