Day 44: Rainbow in the dark

Perth, May 5 2020

Today we continued talking about puddles and rain, an we mentioned that after it rains sometimes we see the rainbow. We looked for some online video about rainbows... and we found this (same source as that of water cycle from day 43): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCPPLhPTAIk

After noticing that we see rainbows also when we blow bubbles - something Dr. Binocs did not mention, we decided to do the experiment that Dr. Binocs suggests. We created a rainbow in a dark room using the objects in picture.

How?

In a transparent cup of water, put a mirror. Go to a dark room. Point the light towards the mirror, and capture the light that is reflected on a piece of white paper... you can watch the movie at the link above, it will make things clearer. Ah.. Dart Vader and Yoda are our torches, light comes out of their feet!

After then, we drew families of rainbows.

We had good fun.

Learning outcomes:

basic physics concepts related to light

Materials: as in picture
