Day 9 of #covid19 #SocialDistance.
Inspired by one of our most beloved books (good from 1 to 3 year old and beyond), we set up an activity to learn about seasons. We decided to go with the traditional European seasons as this is what I know best. It would be interesting in the future to extend this activity to other classifications, like the 6 Nyungar seasons we have here in Perth.
This activity can be split into separate
parts, ideally 4, one per seasons, but we split it in 2 and did autumn today and will do the other 3 seasons on day 12.
We started by making 4 trees, using our hand! And using my beloved cereal boxes.
We proceeded using a background that was painted a few days before, fixing the tree with glue and then we cut pieces of yellow, red, orange paper to make leaves.
And we did many, and used glue to fix them to the tree and to the ground. We then talked about what happens to plants in autumn, introduce the cycle of seasons, and postponed the conversation about what animals do in different seasons to the day we finish the activity.
Learning outcomes:
Seasons and the cycle of nature
Fine motor skills
Materials: cartons for background and trees, colours, scissors, glue, orange red and yellow papers (or colour your paper)
