We made butterflies and flowers with egg carton & toilet roll, used them to decorate our garden to cheer up neighbors, and we did some basic maths in the process.

We learnt that 2 rows of 6 eggs makes 12 wings, hence 3 butterflies with 4 wings each.

It took us a while to figure this out.We first draw a butterfly, counted the wings. Then tried to figure out how many butterflies we could make with 12 wings.

Pictures are quite self explaining on how to make them. The flower is a toilet roll cylinder cut into 9 slices with 2 holes each to put it together with a string.

Learning outcomes:

Basic maths

hand-eye coordination to put string into holes (see zoom on flower)

Material: egg carton, carton of toilet roll, colours, wood sticks (alternatively make carton sticks), glue.
