Day 2 of #Covid19 #socialdistance.
Today in the trash bin we found an opportunity to make magic wands from cereal boxes & baby magic wands for baby brother. We decided one pair of wands had to be moon shaped, one pair had to be flowers, one pair had to be stars. We hanged the baby wands next to baby brother's cot.
Sticks can be wood sticks or I folded 3 times a long cut from cereal box and used sticky tape. Disposable chopsticks from takeaways are also good. They can be fixed with sticky tape at the back of the flower/star/moon.
Flowers:
We drew petals, 6 per flower. To make 2 flowers we needed 12 (that's as far as we can count). 6 petals needed to be bigger - for big sisters - than the other 6 - for baby brothers. After colouring and cutting, we used glue to put them together and also put a yellow circle at the centre.
Stars:
We learnt we can make a star with 5 triangles and 1 circle. To make two stars, we counted 10 triangles and 2 circles. We drew patterns, circles, hearts, Xs and two tiny fish, we cut and used glue to put them together.
Moons:
The moon was easy. Just drew and cut shape from an old toy box with rainbows.
Encourage your child to count pieces and think through what they need to build a magic wand of the shape they want.
